A sharp decline in grain harvests awaits the EU

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a poll by an agricultural consulting firm, that production of wheat and other cereals in EU member states is expected to fall sharply this year.

According to the report, the poor harvest season in the EU could put more pressure on the grain market. The union is expected to produce about 5 percent less wheat this year than in 2021.

It is also predicted that 278.8 million tons of grain will be produced in the 2022-2023 growing season due to water shortage, which is more than 4% less than last year.
